It
was a sad day in the film industry when actor/director Philip Seymour
Hoffman died February 2nd 2014. He was found dead in his
Greenwich village apartment in New York City. Autopsy reports
revealed that Hoffman had died because of a volatile cocktail of
drugs, which included heroin, cocain, benzodiazepines, and
amphetamines. Hoffman was 46 at the time of his death.(Biography.com)
Phillip
Seymour Hoffman was a great actor. Born and raised in Rochester, New
York 1967, Hoffman's love for theater began with his mother. His
mother was a lawyer and father worked for Xerox. His mother often
took him to theatrical performances. This is where he fell in love
with theater. When he was 12 the play All my sons enticed
him. ["When
I saw All My
Sons,
I was changed—permanently changed—by that experience. It was like
a miracle to me," he later told The
New York Times.](Hoffman,Biography.com) Interestingly
enough “Hoffman was more interested in athletics than acting. But
he turned to theater after he was sidelined by a wresting injury in
his teens.”(Biography.com)
He
had
a great sense of character and he did his job very
well. To me it was easy to believe that he was the character he
played. It was almost as he becomes the character and it is very
convincing. Hoffman was best known for his role as Truman Capote in
the film Capote. He prepared months in advance in order to get the
character right. "Playing
Capote took a lot of concentration. I prepared for four and a half
months. I read and listened to his voice and watched videos of him on
TV." (Hoffman,Biography.com)Hoffman was dedicated
to his craft. Hoffman interest me not only as a actor/director but as
a role model as well. He dedicated a lot of time into his acting
career. He shows devotion and perseverance. As a fellow New Yorker
he inspires me to devote my time and effort into the things I love.
Rest in peace Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
