I have been in many places around the world, my parents love traveling and I do too! My one and only dream since I was twelve years old was to visit Paris. After I went, I realized there isn't much to it as I thought there would be. I bet that most of the people 'in love' with Paris have never been there. My problem might be that it is the city with more similarities to New York than any other I've ever been in. From fashion to music to crazy art work! Even the Statue of Liberty can be compared to the Eiffel Tower when it come to tourism and the city's attractions. According to Chan, Kelly "Paris and New York come head to head, making it harder than ever to choose which city does it best."
One country that I really enjoyed visiting was Mexico. I remember telling my friends about my trip to Mexico before it happened and all of them had the same reaction. "Ew why you going over there." But tell them that you're going to Paris and they will all be surprised and jealous. I don't get how people can love or hate a city they have only seen through pictures.
The problem with my visit to Mexico was that my family and I did not go as tourist to explore the country. Instead, we went to visit Grandma who has been living there for about twenty years. We did manage to go out as a family most of the days. My Grandma was always asking me about New York and about how we never got the electricity cut off like in Dominican Republic. Although it was really funny listening to her out of topic questions, the topic about New York bored me to death. All I wanted was for her to tell me everything about Mexico.
I have to say the thing that impressed me the most was the people. In many places, people treat you different if you're an 'outsider' or if you look different or speak different. In Mexico, no one seemed to care. You will meet the nicest people there. They have Taco stands in every corner, just like we have Hot-dog stands everywhere around Times Square. The moment of truth for me was when I decided to order a Taco with no meat. They laughed with my family and said "nadie nunca habia pedido eso". I can't lie, the Taco was delicious and very spicy. Afterwards, they decided to name the no-meat taco after me. I've influenced a lot of people and places being a vegetarian! I took it as a joke, but who knows if there is really a Taco named Rodika somewhere in the DF.
