Diversity at the Job

Working as a cashier and customer service employee at a supermarket is not as easy as it sounds especially because of my nationality and my accent. I have many encounters daily with people from different cultures with different languages at my job. I work doing lottery numbers, and money transfers to other countries and it is difficult to understand others who speak with an accent. There was once a lady who had to write down her lottery numbers on a piece of paper because I couldn't understand her accent, it makes me feel bad because I know I dont speak perfect english either. On a daily basis, customers have to write down what they want to play in the lottery or what adress and name they're sending money too because most of the time I dont understand what they are saying since most of my costumers are from places like Ghana, Togo, Mexico, and Jamaica. I want to provide the best service for my customers but it just doesn't feel right when a customer has to repeat themselves so many times. Even though I was born and raised in New York City, I am still getting used to the diversity of the city.
