When I attended Middle School, I
had the privilege of going to a theater down at Broadway. It was fall when I went to the theater.
Before this trip I had very little to no knowledge about operas or classical
music. All I would listen to is Notorious B.I.G who was born in Brooklyn and
Tupac, who was also born in New York. I would also listen to more rappers that
were big in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
My taste for my music was very limited until I went on this trip. Seeing
The Phantom of the Opera would change the way I would listen to music and
appreciate it.
There are huge amounts of theaters
on Broadway. The show was called Phantom of the Opera. When I saw this show, I
heard for the first time the music they played. It was strange because what I
thought I was getting into is watching live movie theater, but it wasn’t. Going
to see Phantom of the Opera was like listening to music for the very first
time. It was wonderful. One fact that you may not know is that the Phantom of
the Opera is the longest running show in Broadway. As of 16 Feb 2014 it has
played more than10, 839 shows and it is still playing. (Nason-Brown)
Listening
to and watching The Phantom of the Opera’s music opened my eyes, and ears, to
explore music. One reason is because I really liked listening to the singer’s
vocal. I would love hearing how high they can go just like Freddie Mercury and
Marvin Gaye’s vocals. Another reason as to why going to see Phantom of the
Opera is because, while I listened to the violin and flute I had more respect
for the instruments. I even learned to play the piccolo and flute. After this I
made an attempt to explore more music like this. After this experience I
started listening to classical music. People like Mozart and Beethoven have
written many pieces that inspired, and still do, many generations of people
with their music. You listen to people using their music everywhere including
Hip Hop. Because of this experience I now have a more big range of music from
Mozart to Teddy Pendergrass. I listen to almost all artists from Snoop Dog to
Marvin Gaye. Music is something people cant live without and must be enjoyed.
