Don't Judge New York City by its Cover

by: Shamecca Williams

I've only been in love once in my life. I had my heart broken and that was enough love for me. However according to AM New York headline, "New Yorkers share their stories of falling in love with strangers" by: Sheila Anne Feeney. "The cliché of total strangers in an urban crowd who wind up madly in love is the staple of romcom movies, countless " Sex and the City" episodes and schmaltzy songs". Some say you find love when you least expect it. Well that has somehow become the story of my life.

Life had been very exciting, thrilling and full of accomplishments before February 13, 2012. I was in school, working two jobs. I had a sexy boyfriend who was funny, who cleaned, and took me shopping everyday. On the day of February13, 2012 all that came to an end abruptly. After coming from a funeral he was shot and killed in front of the deli store one block from my house. We were both standing there and then all of a sudden it was just me. I thought that was the end for me. For love, for hope, for my dreams, and most of all a waist of all of my accomplishments. That was until I met the most special person I could ever meet in my life, besides Jesus that is.

Sheila Anne Feeney says," What NYC lacks in affordable housing and leisure time it more than makes up for in adversity and adrenaline. Both spark or kindle romantic attraction". In adversity, you have extreme emotions and when there are extreme emotions, people fall in love more easily. Such was the case when I met this obnoxious man. I didn't know who he was and his approach towards my friend frustrated me. When he asked him what is he doing with me? He didn't know who I was. He thought that a beautiful young lady like myself was distracting his friend from being productive. Unexpectedly he followed my friend to McDonalds where I was waiting for my friend. He reintroduced himself, which he had not actually done the first moment we layed eyes on each other. This stranger questioned me for me for about forty-five minutes, then he offered to pay for whatever I wanted. I wasn't going to accept his offer at first, but I figured I'd save my money. When then sat and talked for hours and walked around. I was intrigued by the fact that he had another side that was not obnoxious but smart and funny as well. Since that day we have been inseparable.
