Health and Education

In high-school you can easily miss thirty days and still earn an A, at least I did. I used to have over 50 absences in one school year and somehow still be on the Honor Roll. According to USA TODAY, 7.5 million students miss a month of school per year. (Toppo, 1).  However, college in New York City is different.
In the City University of New York you can only miss six hours of class without your grades being affected. So what happens if you’re sick? Or in my case, what if you had surgery and can’t move out of a hospital bed? And even then you need time for recovery.
I personally had to have an operation and miss nearly two weeks of classes. In college, that is crucial. Things happen while you’re in school; students get sick, loved ones pass away and much more. Living in New York City and using public transportation only increases risks of catching sicknesses.
It is an extreme necessity in our city to obtain an education. Although situations and doubts may occur through a person’s college career; a degree is well worth it. Minimum wage cannot provide enough financial income for a person to survive in this economy.
Being in need of an education and maintaining good-health can be tricky. A person never says, “Let’s get sick today”. However, there are many strategies people can use to avoid sicknesses and diseases. Some ways to help yourself and your family from catching illnesses and diseases are, washing your hands frequently, having updated shots, not sharing things that go into your mouth, and do not touch your face without having clean hands (WEBMD,1).
