Throughout the years transportation
is perhaps one of the most urgent issues facing New York City. I was not born
in the United States; therefore transportation in my country was not a big
issue. I came to this country for better opportunities and to make my dreams
come true. Just like the people, including homeless on the subways, singers,
dancers, or those “candy kids” that make the money on subways are of great
inspiration. However, my experience
about trains is not as good as I thought it was going to be. Ever since I was a
little girl, I always wanted to get on a train. When i got here, the first
thing I asked my father was to take me to Times Square on a train. I was so excited,
but we couldn't make it because when we were waiting for the train, a 40
something year old man jumped into the train tracks. Luckily, the train stopped
before something bad happened. God, i was so scared! After that, I wasn't able to get in to the train
for a while. Today, I don’t get close to the train edges until the train
arrives. On the other hand, the majority of the time homeless people do not
want to admit that they need help and they just don’t want to go to a shelter. “The
goal is to get the homeless, many of whom suffer from mental illness or
substance abuse problems, to accept counseling and placement in a shelter or
residential facility” (Donohue). In conclusion, the experience that I have with
transportation in New York City is something that I will never forget.
