I hate living in the city. There are undeniable advantages in living in the city, but for every advantage there is a many more disadvantages. The city is usually overpopulated, New York has one of the highest cost of living with low paying wages, and the city especially in the lower boroughs can be pretty filthy. For those reasons is why I often think of moving to Houston.
First of all, if we do not have a job that pays well, living and enjoying the city can prove to be a little difficult. Rent is to high, if we can not find a roommate that can help pay off the rent it can be difficult to pay monthly, considering the increase of rent that happens often. According to the NY Daily News" New Yorkers spend a fifth of their budgets on housing, way more than in most other cities." (New York)Taxes are also a problem in the state "Taxes — which are highest-in-the-nation here — hog a whopping 10% of the average budget." (New York). With prices for every day necessities being to costly people have to find creative ways to save some money.
Secondly, cities are usually very populated. Even in the best of times people are perpetually stalled in traffic. I was late on many occasions trying to get to school and to work because traffic can sometimes be horrendous. And with so many people living in the city will lead to competition for good quality jobs that many people do not usually get which will lead to more people to poverty. Also, since more people live in poverty the rate of crime is high because delinquents have all sorts of people to steal from . Public transportation is horrible because of train delays, construction, rerouting, sweltering platforms due to no a/c in the summer, packed - like - sardines train cars in the winter.
The streets of NYC are usually pretty dirty. There are rats everywhere, this city is being over run by vermin.
During the winter it feels like the city does not do a good job of cleaning up the snow at times.
