Encounter With An Island Gayl

With her big curly black hair, slender body, and a sassy attitude, I said “Hi” but her response was surprising. As she looked towards my direction, she utters words with an unfamiliar ascent as she replied with a slight sense of joy “Good Afternoon”. I can tell she was different culturally; by the way she presented herself. After settling down in class we began to engage into a conversation.
With a European ethnicity coming from the Island of St. Maarten/St. Martin the 23 year old was very well rounded in the way she spoke. At the end of class we decided to have lunch in the café. We both had an egg white, mozzarella cheese, and tomato sandwich. It was “delish” may I add. She started telling me about her beautiful island. The white sand, clear blue sea and sunny days, but what stood out to me the most was her culture and the ways she was raised. The way her family celebrate the different holidays and birthdays. From her detailed description it seems like they really take pride in their family and culture.
By the end of lunch I felt like I knew her entire life story. I was very interested in her culture and way of life. Her norm was different and she was very polite. She says pleases and thank you for everything and when she walks in to a room her polite gesture and pleasant smile says it all.
