Subways are more than transportation. It's a way of life.

In the subways, before we even enter the train we encounter all sorts of distractions. We run into people who perform forms of entertainment for money and people who simply just beg for money. Every New Yorker can relate to the this when they have entered the subway. Its part of the New York lifestyle. In my opinion I enjoy these performances because it brightens up my day. Entering the subway seems like a gloomy and melancholy experience for me. The area is so dirty with rats scrambling all around and the smell of the subways is not the most beautiful smell. Last week I saw a guy who came in the subways and started break dancing for the audience. I had to give him 2 dollars because his performance was very unique compared to other break dancers I've seen before and the best part was he's only 16. He said he was doing it because his mom is in the hospital and needs money to support his family. I really felt a strong connection with him since my mom is also going through tough times. I told him keep doing what you love and my condolences to your mom. Observing these performers in the subways keeps me very humble since they wish they could have a lifestyle like us and whenever I have a chance I try to at least give them something.
