I have used New York City subway systems several times in my life. Most recently, I took a trip to Brooklyn with a few of my family members. We were going from Brooklyn to Times Squares and back. I remember the subways being jammed pact throughout the station, and standing up on the train holding on to a metal pole to keep my balance, because the seats were all taken. My cousins who lived in Brooklyn at the time, told me how people preferred to use public transportation mostly the subway rather than drive. Most people use the subway as their homes, rats aren’t the only things living in the New York City subways. That is why I find it creepy especially when no one is around. I avoid taking the train unless I really have to. But that night on our way to Times Square I saw this homeless older lady begging for money, so I handed her five bucks. My cousins said “ don’t give her anything, she has money”. I couldn’t figure out why they would say such thing. Until they explained to me that the homeless lady was just an “act” in the past my cousin’s group of friends followed that lady to the bank and saw her making a deposit of all the money that was given to her. I was shocked that people would actually do something like that, instead of getting a real job people just rather beg. But at the same time I don’t know her story, so I can’t judge. I believe that New York City is where you will find all kinds of people with different stories and different struggles especially in the subway.
